Dosage
Note: This is a general guide. Consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice.
Recommended Dosage Schedule:
1. Initiation Phase:
To minimize gastrointestinal side effects (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), the initial dose is low and gradually increased.
• Week 1-4:
• Starting dose: 2.5 mg subcutaneously once per week
2. Titration Phase:
Gradual dose escalation over several weeks improves tolerance.
• Week 5-8:
• Increase dose to 5 mg subcutaneously once per week
• Optional Dose Increases: (if no significant side effects and based on healthcare advice)
• Week 9-12: 7.5 mg/week
• Week 13-16: 10 mg/week
• Week 17 onward (if needed): 12.5 mg or 15 mg once per week
Maintenance Dose:
• The maintenance dose typically ranges from 5 mg to 15 mg weekly, depending on the patient’s response and treatment goals (e.g., blood sugar control, weight loss).
• Maximum Dose: 15 mg once per week
Injection Instructions:
Subcutaneous Injection Sites:
• Rotate between the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.
• Avoid injecting into areas with scars, stretch marks, or irritation.
Timing:
• Inject once a week, at the same time each week.
• Can be taken with or without food.
Missed Dose:
• If a dose is missed, administer within 4 days. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the dose and resume the next scheduled injection.
Common Side Effects:
• Gastrointestinal: Nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting
• Others: Reduced appetite, mild fatigue
These side effects typically diminish as the body adjusts to the medication.
Storage:
• Keep tirzepatide in the refrigerator (36°F to 46°F / 2°C to 8°C).
• Protect from light and avoid freezing.
• May be kept at room temperature (up to 86°F / 30°C) for up to 14 days if needed.
Important Considerations:
• Monitoring: Regular blood sugar monitoring and weight tracking are essential.
• Individualization: Dosage adjustments depend on clinical goals, treatment response, and side effect tolerance.
• Avoid Alcohol: Excessive alcohol may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
• Drug Interactions: Discuss any other medications or supplements with your healthcare provider.
